Earned Wage Access is UNDER ATTACK in the district of columbia.

D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb wants to stop working District residents from accessing wages they’ve already earned - their own money - through Earned Wage Access (EWA). Thousands of D.C. residents use EWA to pay bills on time, avoid late and overdraft fees, and make ends meet until payday. But if Schwalb gets his way, they’ ll be forced to go back to traditional credit products with mandatory fees, interest, and recourse to the credit rating agencies.

EARNED WAGE ACCESS IS A LIFELINE FOR MANY WASHINGTONIANS.

Too many District residents live paycheck-to-paycheck. Most employer payroll systems are outdated, allowing people access to their pay once every two to four weeks rather than when people need their money. EarnIn levels this playing field by providing a way for D.C. residents to access money they’ve already earned, when they need it. But D.C.’s Attorney General wants to deny D.C. residents the ability to use EarnIn to pay bills on time and avoid late charges and overdraft fees.

EarnIn customers save an average of $756 each year Just by avoiding late fees.

Dear Attorney general Brian Schwalb:
Don’t Gatekeep Access to My Pay!

WHAT D.C. RESIDENTS SAY ABOUT EARNIN

Before i started using EarnIn, I had OVER DRAFTED my bank account multiple times to cover EMERGENCIES, racking up $20 to $30 fees each time.  Since I started using the app, my financial health has improved.  My bank account stays in the black, and my credit score has gone up.

FULL STOP.

EWA is used by working Washingtonians. This is why the D.C. Attorney General’s attack on EWA is, at a fundamental level, an attack on D.C. workers. He wants to take away workers’ control over their finances by denying them rightful access to money they’ve already earned. Bills don’t wait for payday, so why should workers be subject to ridged pay cycles?

EarnIn serves customers who overwhelmingly live East of the River in Wards 7 & 8 and who work for some of the region’s largest employers.
